Celebrating the harvest, a vibrant dance and drum workshop with Zoë Solomons, Thomas Christen and MuSumBa Drummers.

Kassa, a Malinke rhythm of North-East Guinea, is for the Farmers, for fieldwork and harvest. The word *Kassa* means "granary." The rhythm is played directly during fieldwork and accompanies the harvest.

In this workshop we will reflect on the theme of harvest through embodied movement practice. There will be space for free-flow movement as well as some accessible djembe patterns (drumming) and dance steps from the Kassa rhythm. We do this to celebrate the complex richness of African cultural wisdom and to give thanks for this life in collective dance, rhythm and song.

Workshops are Open Level from Beginner to Experienced.

BIOGRAPHIES:

Zoe has been studying dances from the African diaspora for 20 years. She combines her knowledge from a professional contemporary dance career with 15 years teaching embodied movement in service of a deep, caring and playful workshop experience.

Thomas has been a student, teacher and performer of West-African music internationally for over 40 years. He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator with a lifelong passion pursuing rhythm as a natural path to creativity, harmony and balance.
